Furniture & Floor Protection
Furniture moved to the center and covered, floors protected with drop cloths and taped paper, and outlet covers and fixtures removed and bagged.
Walls, ceilings, trim and doors painted with floors and furniture protected, drywall repaired first, and a walkthrough before we call the job done. Most rooms are finished in a day; a full main floor usually takes three to five.
Builder-grade flat paint from the 1990s and 2000s does not scrub well, so the first repaint usually comes when walls start showing every handprint. These are the signs we hear most.
Most of the time on an interior job goes into what you will never see: covering, patching, sanding and caulking. The finish coats are the quick part.
Furniture moved to the center and covered, floors protected with drop cloths and taped paper, and outlet covers and fixtures removed and bagged.
Nail pops reset, dents and holes filled, cracks taped where they keep coming back, and patches sanded and spot-primed so they do not flash.
Gaps at baseboards, casings and crown caulked, glossy trim sanded so new paint grips, and old caulk removed where it has split.
Stain-blocking primer over water marks and smoke, bonding primer over old oil enamel, and primer on new drywall. Not every wall needs it.
Two coats on walls for even color, a flat finish on most ceilings, and a scrubbable eggshell or satin where people actually touch walls.
We walk each room with you in daylight, mark anything you see, fix it before we leave, and label leftover paint by room.
Painting a room before a move-in date or a listing? Call early; we book two to three weeks out in spring and fall.
๐ Call (980) 243-8188About 45% of Matthews homes were built between 1980 and 1999, according to the Census Bureau, almost half again the county share. Most are now on their second or third paint job, and many still have the original builder walls underneath: thin flat paint, settled framing, and drywall seams that move with the seasons.
That settling is why nail pops and corner cracks show up in so many Matthews living rooms. Painting over them looks fine for a month. Resetting the fastener, taping the crack and spot-priming the patch is what keeps the wall flat through the next winter, when the heat runs and the framing dries out.
Summer humidity matters indoors too. Charlotte-area summers keep house air damp, and latex paint dries slower when the air is humid, so we keep the HVAC running, ventilate, and leave more time between coats in July than in October. For homes built before 1978, sanding and scraping old paint follows EPA lead-safe work practices, and ventilation follows the EPA indoor air guidance on VOCs.
One room or the whole house, the order is the same, and nothing gets painted until the room is protected.
We measure, note every repair, and write down which surfaces, colors and sheens each room gets. You get the scope and price in writing.
Furniture is moved and covered, floors protected, switch plates removed, and a work path set so the rest of the house stays livable.
Repairs are made and spot-primed, trim is sanded and caulked, and stains get a blocking primer before any color goes on.
Ceilings first, then walls, then trim and doors. We walk the rooms with you, fix any marks, and reset the furniture.

A clean line at the ceiling and a wall with no flashing patches is what people notice. Getting there takes prep, which is where our team spends most of the day.
Straight answers on cost, timing, sheen, and whether you need to leave the house.
Interior painting is quoted after we see the rooms, because wall height, repairs, trim and color changes move the price more than square footage. National benchmarks run from about $965 to $3,089 for a typical project (HomeAdvisor, updated June 2026) and $300 to $1,000 per room for walls alone (HomeGuide, February 2026). Those are national figures, not Matthews prices.

Question about your property? Call (980) 243-8188An average bedroom with light repairs takes one day: prep and first coat in the morning, second coat in the afternoon. Rooms with a lot of patching, a color change from dark to light, or tall ceilings can take two.
Question about your property? Call (980) 243-8188No. We work room by room and keep a clear path through the house. Water-based paints have a mild smell that fades within a day or two with ventilation; if anyone in the house is sensitive to odors, ask about low-VOC products.
Question about your property? Call (980) 243-8188Eggshell or satin for living areas, hallways and kids' rooms, because they wipe clean. Flat for most ceilings and for walls where hiding imperfections matters more than washing. Semi-gloss for trim, doors and many bathrooms.
Question about your property? Call (980) 243-8188We move furniture to the center of the room and cover it, and put it back when the room is done. Please clear small items, wall hangings, electronics and anything fragile before we arrive.
Question about your property? Call (980) 243-8188Sometimes, but we usually recommend removing it. Paint can loosen old paste and make seams show. If paper has to stay, it gets sealed with an oil-based or shellac primer first.
Question about your property? Call (980) 243-8188No. Primer goes on new drywall, patches, stains, glossy surfaces and big color changes. Sound, clean painted walls in a similar color only need two finish coats.
Question about your property? Call (980) 243-8188Yes. Paint in pre-1978 homes may contain lead, so any sanding or scraping follows EPA and North Carolina lead-safe rules, including containment and cleanup. Ask any painter you hire for their lead-safe firm certification.
Question about your property? Call (980) 243-8188Tell us which rooms, the ceiling height, and what repairs you can see. We will look, write up a scope, and give you a price before anything is moved.
